Yes, after paternity is established he will have rights, but he will also be responsible for child support. She is 14 months and doesn't know him at all, and the two of you live in different states that are a considerable distance from each other. Although he is likely to get joint legal custody (joint decision making) he certainly won't get joint physical custody, and he certainly won't get to see her alone until she gets to know him and has a chance to bond with him. He is being completely unrealistic if he expects that any judge is going to give him 50/50 time with an infant or toddler in those circumstances....or that a judge is going to give him time alone with ANY child who doesn't know him, let alone an infant or toddler. Any visitation at all should be supervised by you, and should take place in Michigan, until he takes it to court and establishes paternity, pays child support, and gets to know and bond with the child.
